Hello, my name is Dr. Emily Chen, a Consultant Psychiatrist specializing in Medical Psychology, based in Toronto, Canada. With over 15 years of experience in psychiatry and mental health, I have had the privilege of supporting many patients in their journey to overcome depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental health challenges.
After graduating from Yale University – School of Medicine, I completed my psychiatry residency at CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), followed by postgraduate training in Clinical Psychiatry at the University of British Columbia. These academic and clinical experiences have allowed me to build a strong foundation, integrating modern medicine with psychotherapeutic approaches to provide the most comprehensive care for my patients.
Currently, I serve as Head of the Department of Medical Psychology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, where my colleagues and I not only focus on clinical treatment, but also develop research programs and training initiatives to improve the quality of mental health care for the community.
My philosophy is that “healing begins with understanding.” I believe that every patient has their own story that deserves to be heard with patience, empathy, and without judgment. That is why I strive to create a safe environment where patients can open up and find hope on their path to recovery.
Outside of my professional work, I dedicate time to meditation, gentle yoga, and reading philosophy and psychology, as I believe caring for oneself is just as important as caring for others. I also enjoy traveling and exploring new cultures, which helps broaden my perspective and deepen my understanding of the diversity of human experiences.
If you or your loved ones are facing mental health challenges, I believe that through companionship and evidence-based treatment, we can work together to restore balance and peace in life.
